Each year we celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends in Texas. We may find ourselves in the city of Houston, Austin or the “beautiful hill country.” Last year the Houston weather was so mild that we decided to eat our Thanksgiving lunch outside at our big wooden table. The sunshine was warm and wonderland we felt happy to have my sister-in-law, who lives in England, with us for the holiday.
Home baked pies are a big part of our Thanksgiving tradition. My Mom is a great cook (and an even better baker) and has always been known for her marathon pie baking sessions. It was fun growing up in a household where you could simply ask for your favorite flavor of pie and know that it would be there at Thanksgiving. Pumpkin, apple and cherry seem to be the most popular at our house. We usually end up with at least 8 pies!
Now that Mom is 84 years old she has passed along her baking secrets so we can carry on our family tradition of baking and eating pie for breakfast on Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
