The beach has always been one of my favorite places to spend time. I was really happy and excited for our friends Lauren & Daniel when they announced they were getting married on Kiawah Island in South Carolina.
Andy and I arrived on the island Friday afternoon – just in time to relax for a few hours before the wedding couple’s “Welcome Party”. Friday evening’s celebration was held outside along the Kiawah River. We enjoyed
cocktails and snacks while visiting with friends & family who were attending the big event. The evening felt laid back and magical as we walked below towering trees lit up with twinkling lights. A fire pit circled
by chairs added more warmth to the evening.
Saturday morning we slept in then grabbed coffee – tea for me – and hit the beach. The sound of the surf, sunny skies and a light breeze combined to form the start of a perfect morning. Bike riding on the beach is
popular, but we decided to take off our shoes and walk on the sand. It was fun to watch the big blue waves roll in with sea birds dipping down along the top of the water. The little tide pools along the beach were
filled with crabs, sea shells, and snails. Groups of families were everywhere with dogs running and kids playing and flying kits. All styles of beach houses were tucked behind the sand dunes.
We absorbed the sound of the waves, the sun warming our faces and the sand beneath our feet!
Back to the hotel for a seafood lunch at the Jasmine Porch Restaurant. Best southern biscuits and peach ice tea ever! The hotel was decorated with lots of spring bouquets and rabbits.
Our first floor room had a charming stone patio looking out on the grassy dunes and beach. Celebrating the “start of a new life together” was the best way to spend a weekend among family and friends!
